DESCRIPTION

Any HPE ProLiant server running the HPE Custom Image for VMware ESXi 6.5 U1 may Experience a Purple Screen of Death (PSOD) when the server is updated using VMware ESXi 6.5, Patch ESXi650-201707205-UG. The PSOD may display a message similar to the following:

#PF Exception 14 in world 67823:sfcb-intelci IP 0x418014104d8f addr 0x43914779c000.

This occurs due to an incompatibility between the Intel CIM provider in the HPE custom image and the Intel NIC driver provided in VMware ESXi 6.5, Patch ESXi650-201707205-UG.

 

SCOPE

Any HPE Proliant server running the HPE Custom Image for VMware ESXi 6.5 U1.

RESOLUTION

As workaround, do not update the net-ixgbe driver in the HPE Custom Image for VMware ESXi 6.5 U1 using VMware ESXi 6.5, Patch ESXi650-201707205-UG.

If VMware ESXi 6.5, Patch ESXi650-201707205-UG has been applied already, revert to a previous VMware ESXi version. Refer to the following VMware Knowledge Base for more details:
